“Digital Pictures - Organizing and Storing” Presented by Phil Goff Phil Goff (Branch 116) presented the Computer Users Group a very interesting and enlightening discussion on digital photography. He provided a brief general background on digital photography including the importance of pixels in making prints. Phil spent most of his time leading the group through the intricacies of managing photos on the computer. He uses Photoshop Elements 3.0 which combines Photoshop Album 2.0 (Organizer) and Photoshop Elements 2.0 into a single program. Although he prefers Elements he noted that there were several other software programs available that were good. He also stressed the fact that individual goals should be set and then followed consistently. Phil emphasized the value of Catalogs and the need for tags to help find pictures in the catalog. This becomes very clear once one begins to accumulate hundreds to thousands of photos and then wishes to locate a specific photograph. In this context he emphasized the importance of having the time and date set accurately on your camera. In most cases photos do not require major editing beyond some cropping and “quick fix” in Elements 3.0 is sufficient, but the program has the capacity to do major editing, depending on the results desired. |
